Collecting A Birth Year Coin Collection
Dr. R.S. Bart Bartanowicz wrote in a Numismaster.com article about collecting one coin from every country of the world for his birth year. All in all, Bartanowicz collected one coin from 64 countries from 1941. What a cool coin collection!!
I am not sure that I would want to collect coins based on my birth year, but I definitely like the idea of collecting one coin from every country for a specific year. I don’t have a huge desire to collect world coins, but I love history. I think that it would be really cool to collect a coin from every country who participated in World War II or World War I.
World War II would be interesting because of the vast number of countries who were involved in World War II. But, I think that World War I would be really awesome. In fact, a lot of those countries don’t even exist any more. The Ottoman empire is gone. The Austria-Hungarian empire is gone.
I am not sure that I am ready to move away from focusing on collecting US coins, but this type of coin collection excites me. What do you think about this type of collection? Do you like the idea of collecting a birth year coin collection?

I do a birth year collection as well.
I collect Proof Sets from around the world (from 1987) – if the country doesn’t have a Proof Set, but has a Mint Set instead, I’ll do that.
So yes, I like the idea.
The only thing in 1987 is that there was the Soviet Union, which no longer exists, so it’s of course not as interesting as collecting a set from WWI or something.
