Coin Collecting Deals – Week of January 19

I thought that is would be cool to share with the readers of Coinblogger great coins that I find on ebay each week.  I am not going to go crazy here, but I will link to 5 coins for sale on ebay.  Hopefully, this weekly series will help you to find great coins to buy.

1.  MS-66 Walking Liberty Half Dollar – This coin would be perfect for a US type set collection.

2.  1910 $10 Indian Head Gold Coin – MS63

3.  1950-D Franklin Half Dollar -  UPDATE:  I HAVE REMOVED THE LINK TO THIS COIN.   NATHAN IN THE COMMENTS BELOW HAS POINTED OUT THAT THIS SELLER MIGHT BE A DISHONEST SELLER.  I DON’T KNOW, BUT I WILL NOT PROMOTE THE COIN JUST IN CASE IT IS TRUE.  THANK YOU NATHAN!!  This 1950-D Franklin Half Dollar is beautifully toned.  I love the look of some toned coins.  If you like them, I think you will love this one.

4.  2004 $50 Platinum American Eagle Grade MS70 – With the price of platinum down, it might be the perfect time to buy platinum coins.  This coin is one of the best mint 2004 Platinum American Eagle coins.  It is graded MS70 by the PCGS grading service.  If you are looking to buy platinum, I like the idea of buying a slabbed platinum coin that might appreciate more than non-graded platinum coins.

   You might want to rethink that toned half dollar. If you look at that buyer’s auctions, he has sold over a thousand coins with exactly the same toning.

   One was returned with the complaint that it was unnatural toning.

   It would be so statistically rare for someone to have 1000 coins for sale, and all of them have practically the same toning.

   I wouldn’t recommend buying platinum until things start getting better (i.e. until more manufactures start using more, driving the price up) – but then again, I could be completely wrong

   next time I see a few good ebay deals escape me I’ll post them here

   LOL. Thanks MrMag. I have heard about the price of platinum being highly tied to the automotive industry. Since the auto industry show no sign of improving, you might be right about the price of platinum being volatile. However, I don’t think that you can predict when the bottom for the platinum price will occur. Therefore, if you want to buy platinum, it is probably good to dollar cost average your buys and buy a little at a time.
