Is it time to buy St. Gaudens Coins, 2011 still has a bullish gold market with the spot price of gold above $1400. For those of you not familiar with this coin, it was the original double eagle designed by Augustus Saint- Gaudens.

The US Coins were thought to be a little plain at the turn of the 20th century so President Roosevelt thought something should be done about it. This was in 1904. Augustus did design both sides of the coin, but unfortunately he died before it was finalized and went into production in 1907.

The production of this coin was delayed because of the difficulty the mint had at properly stamping this coin out. The relief had to be lowered in order to make the coin with only one strike.

The $20 US Gold coin was first introduced in 1850. The St. Gaudens $20 gold coin was produced from 1907 till 1933. The quality of this gold coin has lasted the test of time due to largely that paper money was becoming more popular at the time of its introduction.

The 1908 St. Gaudens $20 gold coin is the only one that does not bear the motto “In God We Trust” and has become a prized piece in many collections.

In most cases this gold coin can be purchased on the open market for the current spot price of Gold plus $20. If you decide to buy St. Gaudens Coins, 2011 prices will be nearly $1450 at this time. It is a wonderful work of art and will hold its value as compared to the spot gold price.

The best coins to buy in 2011 will depend on if you are a collector of this art form or looking to make a return on your investment.

For those into Coin Collecting the US Mint has already releases the 2011 proof sets for the year. This is the Silver Proofs that include the 5 different quarters that are being released this year from the America the Beautiful collection. There are also 4 Presidential $1 collection, 1 Native American $1 coin, 1 Kennedy Half Dollar, 1 Jefferson Nickel and One Lincoln Penny included in this set. The asking price form the US Mint is currently at $67.95.

The current price of gold closed in New York on March 24 2011 at $1438.80. This is up nearly $50 in the past 2 months. Those riding the gold boom are still on their way up. This will continue as long as the world’s economies continue to faultier.

Gold has always been the safe haven for investors when the markets are in turbulent times. This should last the remainder of the year. If you have invested in gold coins as an investment, it is time to consider cashing in on your investment before the price drops and the values of your investment diminishes. It might be too soon now, but you need to keep it in mind as the year progresses.

The 2010 American Buffalo one ounce Gold Proof coin is currently listed at the US Mint as selling for $1,710. The Chinese 1 ounce Gold Panda coin for 2011 is currently being sold for $1510.10 if purchased in a bulk set of 10. These are 0.999 pure gold coins.

These are some of the best coins to buy in 2011. It all depends on the reason you are purchasing the coins.

The best gold coin investing tips are to know what you are doing and know the source from where you are making your purchases.

Knowing what you are doing takes time and knowledge on the subject. Most Gold coins are not pure gold, except for the American Gold Buffalo which is purely 24K gold. The rest like the Gold Panda from China, the American Gold Eagle Coin, and the Krugerrand are all 22K gold. There is still a difference between these in which most 22K gold coins have a mixture of the metals silver and copper. The Krugerrand only has cooper in it. This gives the coin a distinctive color no other gold coin has. It is true that each of these 22K gold coins do contain 1 troy ounce of 22K gold. This makes each of these coins weigh more than a troy ounce because of the alloys added to it. If the coin you are looking at weighs exactly 1 troy ounce, it better be a Buffalo or it could be a fake.

The reason most gold coins have silver and copper is to help it be durable for coin collecting. Gold is a very soft metal and the edges and detail of the coin will be lost if handled too much.

When it comes to the grade of your coin, know the major players. This includes the ANACS, NCG, PCGS NCS, and ICG. If an alternative grading is given, be suspicious of it.

If the price of the gold coin is near the price of gold bullion, it probably is not that rare or is in poor condition. The value of these coins will fluctuate with the price of gold bullion. A rare gold coin will hold its value above the price of gold on the open market.

Coins with a grade MS-62 and higher are the best ones for investment. These will hold their value over time and is just one of the better gold coin investing tips I can give.

If you haven’t heard the news already, the U.S. Mint announced earlier this year that they would be curtailing their overall production of US Gold Eagles in 2009 due to problem sourcing gold to mint them from. The Mint is required to source it’s gold from American mines and because of the huge worldwide demand for gold bullion, was unable to acquire enough to meet projected needs for this year’s Gold Eagle Rounds minting.

This has two impacts on the collectible market: first, it somewhat raises the price of all other gold coins on the market as demand increases; second, it makes the 2009 US Gold Eagles an immediately collectible item because of their relative rarity.

Up to this point in 2009, US Gold Eagles have only been produced and offered in full ounce coins, very rare for the Mint to do. They’ve been offered on a rotational basis, making them somewhat more difficult to source directly from coin dealers. The added interest in them has meant that many shops sell out the day they receive their shipment.

Fractional coins (1/4, 1/2 ounce, etc.) will be available for a very limited time in December. Those promise to be very hard to get and in demand as well, becoming instantly collectible.

Gold Eagle Rounds have always been popular as an investment medium for bullion purchasers who don’t buy full or sized bars. This year, however, 2009 US Gold Eagles are instead collector’s items in themselves. Bullion purchasers have turned to other coins, such as the Canadian Maple Leaf, instead.

Definitely interesting times, but the traditional Walking Liberty motif of the Gold Eagle Rounds is always popular and even more so now with this latest development.

Once again the government has disappointed the masses with a promise and then a cancellation. The latest involves the 2009 Proof Platinum Eagle Coins and bullion coins. Just like the Gold Buffalo coin, this one was cancelled because of the lack of the needed precious metal.

Earlier in the month of October, the US mint did partially change their mind and have announced a limited and scaled down production of the proof platinum eagle coin for this year. Only the 1 ounce coin will be produced.

The unique thing about this US coin was that each year the reverse side changes in design. The design for this year is to have the theme of “To form a more perfect Union”. This design will have a small tree with 13 leaves on it that represent the thirteen original colonies if it has been decided or finalized yet. Yes again the government cannot make up their mind. Surprise, surprise, surprise.

On the US mints home page and throughout the site there is no mention of this discontinuation of the complete proof set or anything about the changes except for one press release on October 6, 2009. In that statement they claim the release date for the 2009 proof platinum eagle one ounce coin will be December 3, 2009. This statement also claims to have been working on obtaining enough blanks to fill next year’s orders. Too bad they forgot to do it this year.

The 2009 buffalo US gold coins now have a release date of October 29. I wonder if they will actually do it.

In 2009, Gold Buffalo Bullion Coins are being minted again after a one year hiatus. This is a reveres from the US Mints decision last year to stop production of this 24Karat gold coin because of the demand by investors and electronic companies for the precious metal gold. This is a change from the previous announcement that the coin would not be produced again until 2010.

The Gold Buffalo coin is different than the Gold Eagle bullion coin by its composition being pure gold without an added alloy to help the coin from being so malleable like the standard 22 k with silver and copper like most gold bullion coins.

There was a lot of buzz in the gold coin circles about the statement issued by the US mint about not issuing any Gold Buffalo coins this year. Someone must have pointed out that the minting and issuing of these coins to the public is set forth by law and must be carried out. This is Public Law 109-145 dated December 22, 2005.

The schedule release of the first 2009 gold buffalo coins was to be October 15, 2009. As of October 19, 2009 the US Mints web sites has a posting a statement saying the release date will be in late October.

When finally released the price of these US Gold coins with be the current spot price of gold plus a nominal fee set by the US Mint office. The current spot price of gold today is at $1053.70. So the price of a newly minted 2009 Gold Buffalo Bullion Coins will be slightly higher.

Some of the best gold stocks 2009 are what the big mutual funds are investing in. The USAA precious metals and mineral fund has AngloGold Ashanti Limited ADR, Randgold Resources Ltd. ADR and Newcrest Mining Limited as three companies that are in the top four stock assets for their fund. This is a total of 14.65% of the fund as a whole. This fund also has had a 1 year return of 32.76%. These three would be a great start to your gold stock portfolio.

Another approach would be to look at the values of the current gold mine company stocks. The Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd with a stock price of $72.77 is at the highest on the current market. This company is a well established company with large proven reserves and potential. The second highest gold mining stock is from Newmont Mining Corp. with a price of $47.21 per share. Again this is a company with well established company with large reserves and potential. Barrick Gold Corp. with a stock at $40.65 is the largest gold mining company in the world. Even when this company made a bad investment like it did last year with an oil company, they still have a stock price in the top 5 of all gold mining companies.

There are other ways of investing in gold. Many investors hold gold bullion or gold coins. The best gold coin to invest in is the Gold American Eagle, closely followed by the Krugerrand of South Africa.

These are several was to do gold investing, the best gold stocks 2009 are just one way.

This is an American Gold Eagle Investing Guide for the world’s most popular and traded gold coin for reasons of investing. There are 4 different sizes this coin is available in, the 1/10 oz, the ¼ oz, the ½ oz and the 1 oz. the face values are respectively $5, $10, $25, $50.

This coin is minted and backed by the U.S. government for weight and gold content. This is a 22 karat gold coin that is 0.9167% pure gold. The rest of it is silver and copper to make the coin more durable. This has been the norm with gold coins for over 350 years.

For gold investing purposes, the one ounce coin is the investor’s choice. This coin has a diameter of 32.70 mm and a thickness of 2.87 mm. The gross weight of the coin is 1.0909 troy ounce or 33.930 grams.

As an American Gold Eagle Investing Guide the U. S. Mint has made two different versions of this coin. From its inception in 1986 till 1991 the date on this coin was in roman numerals. From 1992 till the present day the date has been minted in Arabic numbers.

This is the American version of legal tender bullion gold coins. This coin can be purchased openly on the gold market. The U.S. mint does offer this coin as proofs. This can be either for coin collectors or for gold investing. The minting of a proof is slightly different than the standard American Gold Eagle Coin that most investors possess

When looking at the American Gold Eagle, investors guide will always include a portion about this great coin.

Numismaster.com recently had a great article about Saint-Gaudens prices. According to Numismaster, the price of $20 St. Gaudens have fallen over $100 in the last few weeks.

This article claims that this $100 price drop is due to the gains of the stock market of the past couple of weeks. I really have my doubts that the price of $20 Saint-Gaudens coins is that tied to the United States stock market.

I belive that $20 Saint-Gaudens values are more tied to the price of gold and I believe that the $100 price decrease in these gold coins is directly tied to the falling price of gold.

$20 Saint-Gaudens gold coins are some of the most common coins that gold buyers turn to when buying gold. The common date gold St. Gaudens derive their price almost directly to the price of gold. But, the beta on these gold coins is greater than one. If the price of gold goes up 10%, the price of St. Gaudens goes up by more. There reverse is similarly true when the price of gold decreases.

The $20 Saint-Gaudens Values will always be an important part of the US coin market. Following these $20 Saint-Gaudens Values gives great insight into the direction of US coin prices and gold coin prices.
